About Estes Park

Estes Park is a great place to live. We’re a small, friendly community located at the doorway to Rocky Mountain National Park. There are close to 6,000 people living in town, and another 4,000 or so living throughout the Estes Valley.

The population swells in the summer time, when vacationers flock to our beautiful mountains to sightsee, hike, and watch our abundant wildlife, including elk, deer, bighorn sheep, coyotes, and much more. Many businesses are tourism related.

For those who live here year round, or who want to, you can find out more about our community by looking at the Town of Estes Park website.

To keep up with the latest happenings in town, subscribe to the Estes Park News or the Estes Park Trail-Gazette.

Commute

It’s not uncommon for people to live in Estes Park and work “in the valley,” the term we Estes Parkians use to describe anything down the hill from us–Ft. Collins, Boulder, Denver, etc.  Ft. Collins and Boulder are both about an hour’s commute from Estes Park, while Denver is a bit of a stretch for a commute, at an hour an a half away.  It’s possible to find people to carpool with, as there are commuters headed down both Hwy 34 and Hwy 36 daily.

Dining and Shopping

The majority of businesses in Estes Park are focused on the tourism industry, so you’ll find plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or shop for gifts, jewelry, and souvenirs.  We also have two grocery stores, a summer farmers market, and several hardware stores if you need more practical items.

Entertainment

Two movie theaters, several arts organizations, and the local watering holes offer a variety of after-hours entertainment. Throughout the year, there are various weekend festivals, too.  Check out the Calendar of Events provided by our Visitor Center.

Parks and Recreation

We also have a great Recreation and Parks District, for which I have been a board member. They offer a variety of programs for youth and adults. And of course, we are right next door to Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the crown jewels in the National Park system.

Library

For a small town, we have an impressive library, with a great collection of books, magazines, DVDs, and audio books.
